Instructional Coaches & TCP Teacher Leaders
Teacher Leadership
The NYCDOE has recognized our cutting edge Systems for Improvement in Teacher Teams and Leadership Development as our Area of Celebration and the main driver of our school’s improvement, in multiple Quality Reviews.
At HSHCS, we have two on site Instructional Coaches and three Teacher Career Pathways Peer Collaborative Teachers! They support our teachers to become reflective lifelong learners and grow their instructional practice and planning through modeling, co-teaching, targeted coaching/mentoring, and designing and facilitating differentiated professional learning sessions. At HSHCS, all teachers engage in collaborative inquiry through the Data Wise Improvement Process, in order to ongoingly meet the needs of our students and prepare them for college and career.
INSTRUCTIONAL COACH & COORDINATOR OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Neil Nathan
I’m a former ELA, Global History, and Economics Teacher. I was featured on the cover of American Teacher magazine for directing an Annenberg grant funded arts education program that placed my students at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in internships with Guggenheim Museum, New York City Opera, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. I was the Lead Mentor for Region 9’s New Teacher Mentors and have designed and facilitated professional learning sessions alongside Grant Wiggins (Understanding By Design) and Rick Wormeli (Assessment and Grading in the Differentiated Classroom) at events such as New Teacher Center’s Annual Seminar in San Jose, California and Staff Development Educator’s Differentiated Instruction Conference in Chicago, Illinois. It’s been an absolute pleasure to help grow the collaborative professional learning culture at the High School for Health Careers and Sciences since 2015.
